Canterbury, UK (Signal High) —– Kent Police Constable Matthew Peall was dismissed after a police disciplinary hearing found that he committed gross misconduct, breaching standards of honesty and integrity; authority, respect and courtesy; duties and responsibilities; and discreditable conduct.
Constable Peall was found to have used his power for sexual purposes, sending hundreds of messages to a witness to an investigation Peall was leading. He contacted the woman on-duty, and off. Exchanging hundreds of inappropriate messages, using lewd and suggestive languages, trying to arrange meetings for the purposes of sex.
The woman complained to police oversight. She asserted she was simply trying to assist a police investigation, and that the advances from Peall were unwanted. The matter was referred to the crown prosecution service for criminal charges, but Peall was cleared in that respect.
Peall has been added to a national do-not-hire list of nixed police officers.
