Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (Signal High) —– There were 142 break-and-enters over a 31 day period in Peel Region, an area proximate to Toronto, Ontario. According to police data from July 4 through August 3, 2025. About half of the incidents (76) occurred in Mississauga, and the remainder (66) in Brampton.
Peel Regional Police provided a map showing the incident locations.
Police were kind enough to offer some statistics about break-in targets — e.g. corner lots, homes that back onto parks and other open spaces, etc. They also advised residents to keep shrubs and hedges maintained, ensure doors and windows are locked, get to know neighbours and look out for each other, etc.
This writer notes the feeling of safety inspired by police when they have the wherewithal to gather statistics and offer flimsy advice to homeowners, but just can’t seem to get ahead of the problem. Some might say that the best response to this problem is to prosecute offenders. One report received by our newsroom on this suggests that security would be better with another police service, by supporting castle laws in Ontario, or by taking other measures that cannot be published in this context.
