Journalist Recruitment

Opportunity

Signal High News Corporation is actively recruiting Journalists for its growing news division.  This includes online publications [more], digital radio [more] and studio news programming [more].  Journalists are the front line in the relentless pursuit of truth [more].  They investigate and report news that matters.  They are a proud part of the free press [more] and hold power to account.  We engage journalists in a wide range of roles and functions [more].

This is a ‘work-from-field’, contract position.  English essential.

Best Fit

Successful candidates can smell deceit, read people like childrens’ books, and detect cover-ups and corruption.  They are comfortable in confrontation, highly curious, and summary — superlative communicators with no fear of authority.  They are detail oriented and, forgiving the language, able to ‘cut through the bullshit’.  We welcome a healthy dash of cynicism, sarcasm, and disenfranchisement.  They are able to piece it together, gather evidence, and make clear presentations as to their findings.  Most importantly, they are willing and able to relentlessly pursue truth.

Journalism requires thought to action — organized, goal-oriented, self-initiating, independent, and mission-critical.  It requires collaboration, research skills, active listening, finding value in criticism, and accuracy.  Above all, it demands integrity.  It demands hard work.

Knowledge/Experience Prerequisites:
(in addition to the minimum requirements listed here)

  • understanding of free press, the role of journalism in society;
  • superlative communications skills (read, write, speak in principal language);
  • ability to work productively under pressure and short timeframes;
  • interpersonal skills that facilitate gaining cooperation and acquiescence;
  • advanced presentation skills.

We are not demanding seasoned veterans; however, experience goes a long way.  We require that candidates are fluent (read, write, speak) in the language of the geopolitical area they wish to report on, and that they have a deep cultural understanding for same.  Candidates must have basic English.  Additional languages an asset.

We have basic, minimum requirements [more] that must be met.

Important!  Journalist compensation is based solely on (a) the selection of journalistic works, and the decision to publish; and (b) the sale of advertising and licensing attached to that journalistic work.  This is to say that journalists receive a percentage of advertising sold that attaches to their work.  Journalists are welcome to double-hat other roles and are compensated accordingly.
