You have to determine for yourself how much, if any, of this content to view.  You do not “fail” and are not “weak” by choosing not to view it, or by limiting what you view. Please engage in self-care and reach out for help if you feel you may need it. We are listening.

Voluntary Content Rating System

Signal High News Corporation engages in a voluntary content rating system. Every article, video and broadcast we publish has a code, or spoken warning, that alerts readers, viewers and listeners about content that may not be suitable for children, or those with certain emotional or psychological sensitivities. You can find this code on the first line of the article presented in between two slashes (/), or in the preamble to radio and studio programming.

Parents are encouraged to make use of this rating system when selecting the news that their children will see; however, our guidelines are exactly that – guidelines. We respect the decision of the parent, and believe that the parent should have sole authority over what younger children read, hear and see. We suggest that parents of mature children use the news as an opportunity to raise discussion about the world, and their place in it. Even tragic news can be turned into a learning experience.

/GA/ General Audience. These articles are suitable for all ages.
/PG/ Parental Guidance. Contains content that a parent or guardian may wish to pre-read, filter, supervise and discuss with children and younger teens (under fourteen perhaps). Includes reports of corruption, systemic breakdowns, racism and bias in society – including reports and analysis that may cause cynicism or a questioning of faith in young persons.
/MC/ Mature Content. These articles present in-depth or graphic reports of death, disasters, political and sexual situations, violence and other themes not recommended for children under sixteen years of age, without parental supervision.
/SW/ Serious Warning. These articles present highly sensitive and emotionally charged subject matter that may be disturbing. They may include graphic and gory images, videos and language about war, sexual assault, violent crimes, weapons, drugs, death, torture and other depraved acts. This content is not intended for exercise extreme discretion.
/SB/ Special Broadcasts. These are important systems announcements or emergency messages broadcast at the request of pertinent authorities. Please read them carefully.

Emergency Alert System (EAS)

Signal High News Corporation is working diligently to connect its servers and platforms with the Emergency Alert System (EAS), formerly the Emergency Broadcast System. The EAS provides a direct interrupt for local, state and federal officials to broadcast emergency messages to the public.

Even though broadcasters on the digital band are not presently required to have such functionality, it is our position that our viewers, readers, listeners and subscribers would benefit tremendously by having such functionality, and to be notified when an alarm is raised.

We will continue our efforts in this respect and update as our initiative progresses.

Accessibility

Signal High News Corporation endeavours to publish content that is accessible to all. If for any reason you encounter difficulty accessing our web sites, or any of our published content, due to incompatibility, interference or malfunctioning of your assistive technologies (e.g. Braille or screen reader, TTY or TDD, etc), reach out to us at webmaster@signalhigh.news. Please be sure to specify the address (the URL) of the page or section, the make and model of your device, as well as your full contact information.

Enabling Closed Captioning [CC]

In most cases, closed captioning can be enabled by moving your mouse over the content while it is playing.  In most media players, you can click the button labeled [CC] to control your settings. The same procedure will disable closed captioning.

Closed Captioning [CC] Unavailable

Signal High News Corporation is actively working to expand its use of closed captioning throughout all of its platforms and broadcast stations. We are in full compliance with all relevant Federal Communications Commission (FCC) implementation timelines. More information can be found here.

Please note that certain software and equipment may not support closed captions at this time. We continue to work with our technology and publishing partners to engage wherever possible.

Online News Act (Canada)

The Government of Canada recently enacted legislation impacting radio, television and print media.  Under the new law, foreign news media broadcasters, and content creators, would have to pay fees or royalties of sort to report on Canadian news to the Canadian market.  This law seriously disadvantages non-Canadian broadcasters, and will ultimately reduce the choice Canadian consumers have.  Furthermore, it is impossible to properly calculate and enforce without a large, unwieldy bureaucracy and technology not readily available.

Signal High News Corporation is steadfastly opposed to erecting walls and silos in journalism.  We favour a free and uninhibited press.  It is the cornerstone of democracy.  Following is a press release issued by Signal High executives in response to this unfortunate direction.

Re: Online News Act (Canada)

In recent months, the Government of Canada has passed a new law known as the Online News Act, formerly known in Canada as Bill C-18. In response to the overwhelming demand for comment we have received about this new law, we issue the following statement:

Signal High News Corporation is of the respectful view that Canada has every right to determine its own path, to find its own way and to regulate its own citizens, industries and markets; however, we are deeply concerned that this highly contentious national policy may lead to serious consequences, potentially isolating Canada from the global media community at a time when we are all working to break down barriers and lift the iron curtain, so to speak.

We are proudly American. We are incorporated in the United States and the vast majority of our offices, assets and employees are in the United States. We are an independent news agency and subordinate to the laws of the United States. We will continue to report news that matters to our readers, listeners, viewers and subscribers around the world, including Canada. We will continue to deploy journalists to Canada. We will continue to sell advertising space to Canadian firms. Nothing changes in this respect, at this time.

This being said, let it be known that Signal High News Corporation supports the actions taken by Meta, Facebook, Instagram, Google and other US media giants in response to what we all see as an isolating and protectionist policy – a slippery slope – a step toward trying to control the free press.

We fully anticipate that this is going to cost Canadian media in more ways than one, and strongly urge Canadian authorities to reconsider these measures, and to walk back the new law.

Station Identification

The Federal Communications Commission is the national authority for radio and television broadcasting in the United States.  The operators of radio and television stations are required to broadcast brief station identification messages every hour, and full messages daily – when signing on and off.  This aids in the diagnosis and repair of any technical issues pertaining to the broadcast equipment and tells the listener or viewer what channel they have tuned to. When a station broadcasts over multiple channels/stations, known as simulcasting, each station self-identifies according to applicable regulations in that jurisdiction.

HISTORICAL CONTEXT

We present the very first network sign-off message broadcast by Signal High, followed by the first roll opener broadcast as BADCOP.ONLINE, operated at the time by Signal High Networks Inc. (Canada).  This company later became Signal High News Corporation.
