/PG/ Jacksonville, Florida (Signal High) for BadCop.Online —– A Jacksonville deputy sheriff has been fired after she shot a man with his own gun.

Jason Arrington had been stopped by police for allegedly running a red light, and was cooperating fully. He informed the officer that he had a legal firearm on his body and complied with instructions to step out of the vehicle. One of the officers, deputy sheriff Mindy Cardwell, then went to remove the weapon, a Glock .45 semi-automatic pistol, from a holster on Arrington’s waistband. Standard procedure; however, according to the internal affairs report, Cardwell “put pressure on the trigger of the firearm, causing the weapon to fire a round into Arrington’s right leg.”

According to Arrington, Cardwell “jerked” the weapon several times, causing the discharge. Cardwell reported that the holster was tight and “would not come off,” blaming the accidental discharge on her using her non-dominant hand to remove the weapon. After the discharge, another deputy can be heard yelling “Holy shit!” While another asks Arrington if he is OK.” Cardwell put the gun down and the officers called for help.

An investigation was conducted by the Jacksonville Sheriff Office internal affairs. Subsequently, deputy sheriff Mindy Cardwell was fired.
