London, Ontario, Canada (Signal High) —– A senior-ranking police commander is facing serious assault charges following an incident in Ottawa, Ontario, over the Family Day long weekend.  Inspector Ryan Scrivens of the London (Ontario) Police Service has been charged with assault causing bodily harm, and common assault by the Ottawa Police.  Scrivens was released on bail and scheduled to appear in Ottawa court on June 20.

London Chief of Police Thai Truing is quoted as saying, “The community rightfully expects the highest standards of professionalism and integrity from all London police officers, particularly senior leaders,” which explains why it took three months for the charges to be laid.

Scrivens, a twenty-five-plus year veteran of the London Police Service, was most recently acting Superintendent and Commander of the uniformed division.  He earned $261,821 last year.
