/PG/ New York City (Signal High) for BadSchool.Online —– Columbia University will pay an additional $750MM to former patients of university gynecologist Dr. Robert Hadden as part of an agreed settlement.
This in addition to the $250MM already paid, and the $100MM being kept in reserve for future victims that have yet to come forward. Thousands of patients from the past thirteen or so years have come forward. Hadden was convicted of a barrage of sex crimes in January 2023 and is now serving a 20 year sentence. The university has been sharply criticized for its response to complaints — some accusing it of a deliberate and direct cover-up. No administrators or senior leadership at the school have resigned or faced any disciplinary action.
The university issued a statement: “We deeply regret the pain that his patients suffered, and this settlement is another step forward in our ongoing work and commitment to repair harm and support survivors,” the statement said. “We commend the survivors for their bravery in coming forward.”
Columbia has pledged to notify all 6,500 former patients of Hadden and contract an independent, external investigation into the cover-up.
