Opportunity
Signal High News Corporation is actively recruiting community participants (unpaid community participants, interns) for its growing outreach and interaction division. Specific roles include moderators, operators, and social media managers — to engage our readers, listeners, viewers, and subscribers.
We are a small, alternative news agency with six online publications [more], digital radio [more] and studio news programming [more]. We are a proud member of the free press [more], active in the relentless pursuit of truth [more]. We investigate and report news that matters.
This is a community participant, ‘work-from-field’ position. English essential.
Position Objectives
Community participants (sometimes known as ‘Evangelists’ or ‘Champions’) provide an independent perspective about the news we publish. They keep the conversation going, so to speak, while gathering input from customers. They promote our news products in social media and feed back valuable insight.
Successful candidate(s), depending on role, will:
- lead and moderate online discussion surrounding published news articles;
- censor and clear comments made by participants in online discussion forums;
- listen to customer input, recommend areas of improvement, expansion, etc;
- generate reports for future news articles;
- provide general assistance to platform users;
- connect readers, viewers, listeners, and subscribers to journalists and company managers;
- participate in social media in support of the company, publishing news articles, etc;
- feed back to journalists, editors, company managers;
- participate in research, surveys, publicity campaigns, etc;
- monitor and report on news around the world, submitting reports, suggesting articles.
Best Fit
Community participants have an interest in current affairs and support alternative news media. They are able to set aside their own political and ideological beliefs to have progressive and meaningful conversations with just about anyone, like chameleons. They are, or at least appear to be, open minded and respectful of differing views. They are tactful, culturally sensitive, courteous, and superlative communicators. They possess excellent judgment and are not afraid to take action within the scope of their charge.
These roles are perfect for aspiring journalists, journalism students, and others intent on entering into the news industry. Participants must be fluent in English, and may be conversant in other languages as well. Participants must be technologically savvy and able to learn new systems and processes. Having an established base in various social media channels an asset, ability to use social media a must.
Members of the team may double-hat these roles. Community participants get ‘first shot’ when opportunities for engagement arise. We ask for a minimum average of three hours weekly participation, more in cases where specific responsibility has been granted. This is a foot in the door, an opportunity to be part of something great.
Candidates must meet certain minimum requirements [here].
