/PG/ Aosta [Italy] (Signal High) for BadMedicine.Online —– An Italian Radiologist, who happens to be the husband of an Italian Senator, is alleged to have used hospital equipment at his place of work to conduct a Computed Axial Tomography (CAT) scan on his pet cat. Dr. Gianluca Fanelli brought his cat “Athena” to the hospital for the examination before performing pneumothorax surgery to drain liquid from the two-year-old feline’s lungs.
The hospital director said the matter was being investigated internally, and that the case had been referred to prosecutors. “Unfortunately it wasn’t a joke, and now we are investigating all possible violations.” Prosecutors have reportedly said that Fanelli could face charges. Fanelli would only say that he has offered to reimburse the hospital.
Senator Nicoletta Spelgatti, a member of Italy’s Far-Right League Party, and Dr. Fanelli’s wife, defended her husband in comments reported by Italian media outlets. “In life you do the right thing and you don’t worry about the consequences,” she said. “My husband saved a life. That’s it.”
